My life takes me on the road frequently, for business and pleasure, spending a good deal of time on airplanes. Most every poem I write starts out in flight. Some of them land safely. Some of them crash.
I have a career as an award winning writer for advertising agencies in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, and Salt Lake City. My poems have appeared in numerous literary journals including The Missing Slate, Poetry Pacific, and Poetry Quarterly. See a list of published poems here.
I was born and raised in Mansfield, Ohio, educated in Catholic schools, and graduated from Ashland University with a BA in Theatre.
Most of the posts here are my poems and posts of other bloggers of interest, but I also post regularly about music, advertising, aging, and other topics that interest me.
Thank very much for following First Night History!

Thank you for following “A Way With Words.” My joy in writing is made more complete when people read what I’ve written, and even more as they respond.
I write mainly about faith and mental illness, but am known to dabble in other subjects, stories, and poems as well. If you have any requests, please contact me.
You have an intriguing site. I look forward to reading more of your work. May you be blessed in your life and writing, as you bless others.

Thanks for following WordSisters. Interesting that you mention being a poet and copywriter. Copywriting is my day job, but I’ve been writing personal essays and memoir for years. Blogging, is a relatively new pursuit (2 years). I love the idea that your plane trips are designated writing time for you.

Thank you! I look forward to reading more of your blog. The best advice I can give is to a) know your market, so you do not waste time chasing after publications/publishers that are not appropriate for your work (sounds basic, I know, but you’d be surprised how often people ignore this) and b) do your research. There are lots of scammers out there. The Writers Beware blog is a great tool for this. They also give wonderful advice for people who are trying to get published.

Hello Dan. Your blog looks impressive and I love what I’ve seen of your poetry. I’m quite fascinated by your name. Is it Dutch? (You can just ignore that if you like – I’m just being nosy). Thank you for the follow, I’m sure I’ll enjoy reading more of your work.
