through the window, casa degli artiste
I wrote about this house located in Umbria in my poem, The house where artists lived
13 ways of making poetry a spiritual practice
An excellent piece from the British literary journal Magma on making poetry a spiritual practice. Enjoy!
horseplay
loose legged fillies
displaying their affections
distracting stallions
Scratch
I am in a mood
This itch I need you to scratch
Only you can reach
Rebirth
Out in the open
leaves cover decay
the undergrowth
awaiting its moment
to burst forth
in a splendor reserved
for the loving hands
of God’s embrace
Sometimes when I meditate these poems burst forth from my subconscious mind, making writing a spiritual practice like praying. This poem is an example of this.
lip gloss
rum sipped lips approach
candy coated novelty
numbing in my legs
invitation
the fertile caress
offered through silk lingerie
adoringly felt
Lost and found
What if we just stopped now?
got off here and departed
in opposite directions
with no last look back
shuffling on
to whatever comes next
never again to lie
with our legs entwined
our faces close enough
to feel the pounding of hearts
the hotness of breath
lost without each other
What if we just stopped now?
and started again
put on our shoes
and went for a walk
where no one knows us
familiar feelings fade
leaving us holding on
with nothing to do but drink
daring to take one last sip
before it is all drunk
and we forget
how we got here
This poem appeared originally in Poetry Pacific, August 2014. This has been revised a bot since then.
